El Circo

El Circo

Our rating: 8.5/10

We’re off to run away and join the Circus. Thought not any old circus. This is a circus with drag queens, a 9 course degustation menu, burlesque dancing and more. The home of this circus is the Slide Lounge, and every Sunday night it is transformed into the El Circo dining experience. With the introduction of every new course comes a unique performance to accompany it.

Your host for the night is Verushka Darling, who according to the El Circo website is a “one-woman global media phenomenon”. She does a fantastic job as emcee, and gives a standout show-stopper number in between the 4th and 5th course. Don’t be surprised by the seagulls she is wearing – all will be revealed soon enough.

A black and white image from the El Circo siteOf course the other major act of the night is the food, which luckily doesn’t get relegated to support act status. In fact there are times the food becomes part of the act. The dishes are served and eaten in unconventional ways, and at one point I could have given myself whiplash from looking at my food, to the act going on right next to me and then back to the food! It was all too much at once. To give too much away though would ruin the surprise. I’ll let you experience it all for yourself.
