French food seems to be in vogue at the moment, and for lovers of fine cuisine this is great news. Apres is a newly opened french bistro right in the heart of Potts Point.
The first thing you notice about Apres is the gorgeous art deco building which adds an air of excitement to the experience. The beautiful styling of the building lends it self more to a private apartment building rather than a public restaurant. The building itself has a chequered history and throughout it’s life has been a hotel, private club and residence.
We started off with cocktails in the bar, which was a lovely way to get in the mood. After drinking the cocktail a tad too quickly, we were whisked away to our table. Unfortunately our request for a booth was declined as we were only two, and the booths are for four.
Once seated, we had the house special presented – escargot! Yes, snails as a complimentary taster. I had gone through life without eating snail, but since it was sitting right in front of me I went for it. The taste was actually not too bad and not slimy like you imagine. (everyone asks “was it slimy”?)
Apres has a very reasonable Three Course set price of $60 per head. Always a good option and doesn’t make you feel guilty about having an entree AND dessert. My selection for the evening was the Soup of the Day, Veal for main course, and Creme Brulee as the main.
